Dyes get tested before anything gets wet. Older and hand-dyed rugs can bleed, and finding that out on the rug rather than on a test corner is not recoverable.

Fringes, edges and pet accidents are handled separately. Pet urine in particular has to be treated at the foundation rather than surface-cleaned, or the smell comes back with the next humid week.
