The work is done across fittings rather than in one pass. A first fitting sets the hem and the bodice, a second refines it, and a final fitting happens close enough to the day that the fit is still right. Book the first one well before you think you need to.

Bustles are the piece most people have not thought about. An American, French or ballroom bustle each hang differently and each suits a different train, and whoever is doing yours on the day needs to be shown how it works before the wedding, not during it.

Bring the shoes and the undergarments you will actually wear to every fitting. Hem length is set from the floor to the shoe, and a change of heel height after the final fitting undoes the work.
